SEVT presented PEFMED during the Info-event on the challenges faced by the Food industry
SEVT organized the 2nd PEFDAY on the topic "Food Industry & the Future Challenges". The event took place during the International Food & Beverage Exhibition (FOOD EXPO), the largest Food & Beverage trade show in Southeast Europe, on the 17th of March, in Athens. The aim of the event was to discuss the current challenges and prospects of the Sector and to present the project.67 guests coming from the industry, R&D centres/universities and other organizations attended the event.
Mrs V. Papadimitriou, Director General of SEVT, gave the opening speech of the PEFDAY where she addressed Food Industry priorities and the PEFMED project. Subsequently, Prof. G.-J. Nychas of AUA, presented the EU policy "FOOD 2030" and the key priorities for the food industry. Mr. V. Liogas, from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, referred to circular economy policy, while Ms. A. Foulidi, from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, presented the policy for the reduction of food waste. A panel discussion was held coordinated by Ms J. Petrohilou (NHRF) which exchanged views on the challenges facing the food sector, such as nutritional security, environmental footprint reduction and food waste and the implementation of green innovations along the food chain. At the same time, the contribution of Greek food businesses to the sustainability of the sector, through good practices and related initiatives, as well as the SEVT activities for the European project PEFMED were discussed.
